Because many people have begun passionately debating the use of AI-generated illustrations in games, we wanted to provide a few words about the use of AI tools in this particular game in the spirit of being honest with our customers and community. Just like we do for all of our original games, we hired and paid an artist to create original illustrations for Earth Cows. After hiring the illustrator, we noticed that they utilized AI tools to create the images that we paid for to use in the game. At the time, AI tools were new and just gaining popularity, and we thought the AI-generated images would add to the sci-fi theme and look and feel of this game. We also conducted research as thoroughly as possible to ensure that the use of these illustrations would be legally and ethically acceptable. Now that the game has been published, we have become aware that there are now many questions about how AI tools gather information to generate their images, including some concerns about how these tools scan original art from artists from the internet with or without their consent. Because of this, we are pledging to NEVER use AI-generated artwork or illustrations in any of our games going forward. We want to be sure everyone in our community and industry knows that we are fully committed to the work of artists, and we plan to continue to build professional relationships with artists, and to pay them fairly for their original works that are such an important part of any game we create.
